How to Apply for MM2H: Step-by-Step Guide for Arab Applicants
The MM2H application process can seem complex, especially when navigating it from the Gulf or another Arab country. This step-by-step guide breaks the entire process into clear stages so you know exactly what to expect from start to finish.
Step 1 — Check Your Eligibility
Before preparing any documents, confirm that you meet the core financial requirements: MYR 40,000/month offshore income, MYR 1,500,000 in liquid assets, and the ability to place MYR 1,000,000 in a Malaysian fixed deposit upon approval. If you are close to the thresholds, speak to an advisor first — some documents can be structured to strengthen your application.
Step 2 — Engage an Approved MM2H Agent
All MM2H applications must be submitted through a MOTAC-approved agent based in Malaysia. ArabAdvisor works with a network of licensed MM2H agents and can serve as your Arabic-speaking liaison throughout the process. Your agent will prepare and submit the application on your behalf and follow up with MOTAC.
Step 3 — Prepare Your Document Package
Gather all required documents. All documents in Arabic must be officially translated into English or Malay. Translations must be certified by a registered translator or a Malaysian embassy in your country. Allow 4–6 weeks for this stage.
Step 4 — Submit the Application
Your agent submits the complete file to MOTAC in Kuala Lumpur. Upon submission, an application fee is paid and a reference number is issued. Processing typically takes 3 to 6 months. During this period, MOTAC may request additional documents or clarifications.
Step 5 — Receive Conditional Approval
Upon approval, MOTAC issues a Conditional Approval Letter. You now have 6 months to travel to Malaysia to complete the final steps: opening a fixed deposit account at a Malaysian bank, purchasing medical insurance, and undergoing the required medical examination.
Step 6 — Complete In-Country Requirements
In Malaysia, you will visit an approved hospital for your medical examination, open your fixed deposit account, and submit the required documents to MOTAC in person. Your visa will then be stamped into your passport, and you will officially become an MM2H resident.
Step 7 — Ongoing Compliance
MM2H holders must maintain their fixed deposit, ensure medical insurance remains active, and report any changes in circumstances to MOTAC. The visa is renewable every 10 years subject to meeting the ongoing requirements.
